The PlayStation 4 recently had their Paris Games Week showcase. In it, they showed off a number of games that will release in 2018. If 2017 was Nintendo’s year, 2018 appears to be Sony’s. With exclusives coming to the PlayStation 4 such as Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part II, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, and much, much more, including expansion packs for games such as Destiny 2, Call of Duty: WWII, and Horizon Zero Dawn. While Nintendo has their lineup of fantastic IPs, Sony is amassing their own list of amazing franchises, and while they may not be as iconic as Nintendo’s, they’re just as bit as good.
The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us Part II feels very much like The Godfather Part II. Its brutality and storytelling puts The Walking Dead to shame. The trailer for the title may have been a little off-putting with the amount of sheer violence and the fact that none of our beloved characters appear, but, the game promises to be one of 2018’s bright spots. A more mature and darker Ellie appears and while details for the game are scarce, it promises to be one of the best the year has to offer.
Spider-Man
Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man looks incredible. Finally, a Spider-Man game worth looking forward to! The action is top-notch and the latest trailer hints at a plot that will give the films a run for their money. This is the first time a Spider-Man game has actually excited fans, and it’s a PlayStation exclusive! With enemies such as the Kingpin, Green Goblin, and Mister Negative, there’s no doubt that Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 will not disappoint.
God of War
God of War was a series I thought was dead. The last I remember of it was watching youths (note: not appropriate) playing it during my volunteer days. Nonetheless, God of War is a storied Sony franchise and this installment is looking to be the best yet in the series. Giving Kratos a son will create a very interesting dynamic and I infer that we’ll be seeing a slightly different of iteration of Kratos than days past. God of War is one of the most iconic video game series’ of all time, and no doubt it will not disappoint on Sony’s flagship PlayStation 4 console.
Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus is a remake of the PlayStation 2 classic by Team Ico. This is one of the most iconic games in all of gaming and to receive full-on remake is every Sony fanboys dream made reality. Following the protagonist Wander, players will traverse an unknown land in hopes of toppling massive colossi in hopes of resurrecting a young girl named Mono. Shadow of the Colossus is one of the best games of all time, and the fact that it is being remade for the PlayStation 4 adds to Sony’s already incredible lineup for 2018.
These are just four of exclusive games coming to the PlayStation 4 in 2018. A full(er) list can be found here, and it’s nothing to scoff at. This doesn’t even take into account the timed exclusives the console is getting, like with Destiny 2, Call of Duty: WII or Star Wars: Battlefront II.
While 2017 was the year of Nintendo, 2018 will be the year of the Sony PlayStation. Mark my words. The Last of Us Part II alone could make the year. Nintendo will continue to have an excellent release schedule, but Sony is on fire, and has been on fire since the beginning of this year. If Microsoft doesn’t pick things up with the Xbox One with a new Gears of War or Halo, they could find themselves in the PC market rather than selling consoles.

Given that Microsoft’s pathetic, overhyped, overpriced “Weakest Console in History” doesn’t have a single exclusive game worth playing either now or ever I think it’s safe to assume that 2018 will be much like every year from 2014 onwards has been. The PS4 and the Switch are going to continue to dominate the sales charts while Microsoft’s pitiful, third-string, poor-man’s excuse for a gaming machine will continue to rot in the bargain bin like the weak, unwanted, unwelcome, non-gaming POS it truly is.
And yes, Xbox crybabys…sales prove that.

Sorry Morgan, but I think there’s a virtual 0% chance that The Last of Us Part II comes out in 2018. Sony and Naughty Dog have not confirmed a release window at all. ND finished Uncharted: The Lost Legacy just a little while ago, and now the team has just moved on in full to TLOU 2. Additionally, Sony tends to release their biggest games in the first half of a calendar year (The Order 1886, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Horizon: Zero Dawn), not second half. TLOU Part II will certainly not come out between January through June 2018! Not to mention that TLOU 2 will be a better game coming out in 2019 than 2018 (more development time = better game), and Sony will need to have a huge game coming in 2019 after the incredible 2018 lineup.

Yeah, I feel 2019 is most likely going to happen for Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch (as well as Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part II). 2018 is expected to have God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, and Days Gone.
I’ve got no idea about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake though. Square Enix seems to be in no rush to get it out. That could be 2020 for all I know.

You didn’t feel like 2017 was the year for PlayStation as well? There were so many triple A titles this year, I think has been better than 2018 currently looks, not that 2018 doesn’t look phenomenal. Just look at the new ip’s like Nioh and Horizon, then returning favorites like Yakuza Zero and Persona 5. Either way, 2018 looks awesome and I can’t wait to get my hands on the new God of war and red dead 2.

Feel free to like what you do. That said, Nioh, Yakuza, and Persona 5 aren’t true AAA blockbuster titles. Yes, there’s a lot of people who are really into that kind of thing, but those aren’t in the same elite group as Horizon: Zero Dawn & Uncharted: The Lost Legacy that have broad appeal.

This was my point in previous articles but everyone simply ignores it. That doesn’t mean they aren’t great games, but Horizon, Uncharted, Zelda, Mario, and others (sorry my mind is on the fritz) are AAA games; the ones previously noted aren’t, even if they are great games. Hell, my favorite series, the Xeno games (going back to Xenogears) aren’t really AAA titles. Nier Automata is one of my favorite games this year but it’s not a AAA title. Nintendo came out swinging with AAA titles this year, in my opinion. The games have a mass appeal and aren’t niche.
Next year though, I think will be such an exciting year for gamers. I think Sony will beat out Nintendo, but the Switch will have some tricks up its sleeves. Thanks for the reasonable response btw and thanks for reading! I don’t mind if people disagree, but the hate on here sometimes is ridiculous.

(You mean everyone but me ignores that LOL)!! 2018 is going to be nuts! Sony could release God of War alone and that would be more than sufficient in my opinion (when talking about PS4 exclusives)! Add on top of that Spider-Man and (probably) Days Gone and we have the definitive winner for the 2018 exclusives race unless Nintendo comes out with major entries in the Metroid, Pokemon, and Super Smash Bros. franchises (which won’t happen).
And games from third party publishers are looking incredible too! I have high expectations for Red Dead Redemption 2, Anthem, the next Battlefield game, and the next Call of Duty game. And who knows what Bethesda is up to!

And what “elite group” is that? They don’t sell as much, if that’s what you mean, but they’re certainly in the same tier of quality. Those are all phenomenal games, received well by fans and critics.

Well, if you paid close enough attention to my previous comment, you’d see that I already defined what the elite group is. But to give a more complete answer, those are Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy). A common thread being that these games are going for cinematic quality art style.
I’m aware that The Lost Legacy sales need improvement (assuming the under 1 million number from VGCHARTZ is accurate), but since it resembles an expansion pack, it gets some slack cut for it. The marketing for it wasn’t nearly as widespread as for Uncharted 4 + many people got The Lost Legacy for “free” because they got whatever special edition of U4 that made that possible.
