Amiibo sales numbers are in, and Nintendo’s charming NFC figurines have been a smashing success. In just one month, amiibo have sold approximately 700,000 units in the United States alone. Our favorite green-clad hero Link took the top spot as the best-selling figurine, followed by Mario and Pikachu respectively.
Nintendo also revealed that amiibo sales have closely mirrored the sales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which has sold nearly 710,000 copies in the US. While Smash sales may be slightly disappointing in comparison to its Wii counterpart, it launched on a system with a much smaller install base. In response to Smash’s release, the Wii U enjoyed its biggest week of sales since the system launched in 2012, with hardware sales up 90% from the same time period last year.
With amiibo continuing to fly off of store shelves at an exponential rate and reports that wave two figures are already available at certain retailers, Nintendo have set themselves up for an incredibly prosperous holiday season.
Make sure to snag your favorite amiibo while you still can, as some have become increasingly rare!
