Nintendo emphasizes commitment to the Wii U GamePad

In an interview with IGN, Reggie Fils-Aime reiterated Nintendo’s commitment to their unique touch screen controller, the Wii U GamePad. When asked about whether or not the company would move away from their incredibly unique controller, Fils-Aime stated:

For us, that is not part of our vision. We believe that the GamePad is an integral part of Wii U.”

“During this week, we’re going to be showcasing other ways for utilizing the GamePad, and this has been a priority for Mr. Miyamoto. He, himself, has dedicated a lot of his personal energy to showing what can be done with the GamePad to really bring it to life. We’re committed to it. We believe that it is a key innovation that, otherwise, all you’re doing is making prettier pictures and using faster processors, and not bringing a lot of uniqueness in terms of gameplay.”

It’s obvious from Fils-Aime’s quotes that gameplay and innovation, not graphical prowess, are at the top of Nintendo’s priorities. Just today Nintendo unveiled Amiibo, taking advantage of the Wii U GamePad’s NFC (near-field communication) technology by using figurines to affect gameplay, a very unique and impressive feat to say the least.

We are sure to see more innovative uses of the Wii U GamePad as E3 carries on, as this is something that clearly seems to be a priority to Nintendo.
