The forest has been an integral part of the Zelda series for a very long time. The Master Sword is found in the Lost Woods in A Link to the Past. Link hails from Kokiri Forest in Ocarina of Time, and almost every Zelda game has a forest-themed dungeon found within it. For today’s Music Monday, we are commemorating the part the forest has played in the Zelda franchise, as its legacy is rich and full of history.
Ocarina of Time was not epic because of its story or even its setting, but because of its music. It set the tone for the entire tale, and before we knew it, we were whisked away on a magical journey that changed our hearts forever. Our first stop was Kokiri Forest, where we were introduced to The Great Deku Tree. The Great Deku Tree’s theme is the piece of music that set the tone for Link’s adventure, expressing the serious and dire nature of Link’s quest. The Synthetic Orchestra’s cover of The Great Deku Tree’s theme, “The Legend of Zelda – OoT – Deku Tree Orchestra” is an epic rendition of a piece of music that helped shape the atmosphere of one of the greatest games of all time.
There’s something creepy yet soothing about the Forest Temple music in Ocarina of Time. The song is beautifully haunting, and it’s definitely one of my favorites. Just listening to it makes me feel like I’ve been transported to another realm. This cover of the Forest Temple theme was made by Bob’s your jolly uncle. He took several guitars and synced them together, creating a killer remix.
